For individuals, couples, families or groups
Why a Retreat?
Part of the mentoring relationship with Wayne Muller includes the possibility of a custom-tailored retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The retreat is for both individuals engaging in the private mentoring path with Wayne, or for couples, groups of friends, family members or colleagues who wish to work together. Rather than an off-the-shelf program, each retreat is created to meet the specific needs of each of our clients.
An individual, personalized retreat is made of unhurried days, mindfully crafted to serve you or your group’s particular needs and intentions. Through collaboration, inquiry, contemplation, curiosity, and exploration, you will listen, with an easy, merciful compassion, for how to reveal and nourish your true nature and deepest happiness.
Here, you may reconnect with your own innate curiosity, and simply live more gently and slowly for a while. This sanctuary in time is also supported not only by the breathtaking landscape of Northern New Mexico and its ancient culture and sacred sites, but by a rich circle of bodyworkers, yoga teachers, meditation teachers (available if you choose to use them) – all the while retaining generous time for hiking, creativity, nothing in particular, and sleep. After the retreat, follow up sessions help integrate, into the real soil of our daily lives, whatever seeds may be planted or discovered during the retreat experience.
A retreat is no mere selfish indulgence; it is a radical act. By offering a fierce no to the relentless demands of the world, you claim a radical yes to more honorably sustain a potent, essential wholeness, and take hold of a deep, healing stillness, not only for ourselves, but for the frantic, desperate achings of those close to us, those we love.
We have found through our 35 years experience holding retreats that a minimum of 12 hours of support sessions during your sabbatical retreat is the optimum time for this kind of deep work, plus a minimum of three preliminary sessions (by phone, Skype or in person), and three post-retreat integration sessions (by phone, Skype or in person). These 12 hours can be divided into as many days as you like, a minimum being three days. Some choose to stretch their 12 hours over a week’s time, others work intensely for four days (three hours a day). But 12 hours is the minimum, and there are many ways to take advantage of mentorship time during, or in preparation for, a retreat. Others opt to have us on retainer for a period of time, to support them through the arc of a transition. However, we will help you to decide what best meets your specific needs.
Crafting your retreat time
We will also collaborate with you to determine what else you would like to craft for yourself in service of your sabbatical time. We will guide you – to the extent that you would like us to – with suggestions for where to stay and contact information for other activities in keeping with what you would like to do (e.g., yoga, shamanic healing, massage, hikes, healers, practitioners, art galleries, etc.).

Since I had been inspired and challenged by Wayne’s books, ‘Sabbath’ and ‘A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough’, I was excited about the opportunity to have daily group time with him for a week My individual time with Wayne was rich, but the time with a trusting group of friends, in and out of session, was equally rich and transformative. Since the group shared a house together for a week, most of our waking time was spent processing with one another our learnings and our “yearnings”. We laughed together, we supported one another, and we shed tears for ourselves and one another. The entire week far exceeded my expectations.
I highly recommend Wayne as a therapist and/or spiritual director. And, I recommend gathering together a group of kindred spirits for a week of blessings with Wayne in Santa Fe! We plan to return next year!
